In their penultimate game this half of the season, Chepstow Ladies took on Milford Haven at home in a closely contested battle despite Milford's position in the league.

Milford Haven opened play with conviction as they drove up the pitch with pace.

Breaking through the defence, the visitors put Chepstow on the back foot as Baker stepped up to intercept play at left back and cleared the ball.

It acted as an early wake-up call for Chepstow and they soon settled into the game, concentrating on possession and accuracy.

With several narrowly-missed goal opportunities for Chepstow they were looking solid, particularly in defence with Clarke, Baker, Barclay and keeper Thomas denying all of Milford's opportunities.

But it wasn't long before half-time when Milford managed to put away one of their attempts in a scrappy battle at goal.

It was a different story for Chepstow Ladies after half-time, they dominated on the pitch and though Milford Haven broke with pace and skill, they didn't step up to take back possession with conviction.

Play was moving fiercely around Chepstow's business end with beautiful hockey from Clegg, Searle, Barclay and Moore as they had more chances frustratingly skim past the posts.

Chepstow were awarded a short corner received by Eburne and slipped right to Baker, who struck the ball to left post from the right corner of the D and converted.

It was 1-1 with 10 minutes to go and both sides were battling. Milford's key players in centre midfield and centre forward broke from Chepstow's attacking move and counterattacked with skill.

Williams chased the centre forward down as she was one-on-one with keeper Thomas, who stepped up to save another impossible strike.

With one minute to go, Chepstow fouled outside the D but Milford were awarded a debatable short corner on the final whistle by Milford's umpire.

Moore ran to the straight strike as Chepstow held their breath. A Chepstow foot gave Milford another short corner.

Nerves were palpable as Moore once more ran to the straight strike, Chepstow united to deny Milford again as the final whistle went and a massive sigh of relief from Chepstow as they saw out a 1-1 draw.

Chepstow take on Rhondda 2nds at home on Saturday (23rd November).
