A PRIMARY school pupil is to take on an obstacle ‘mud run’ for the second time, raising money for a Chepstow-based charity.
After raising enough money from last year’s challenge to buy 30 sleeping bags for homeless people, 10-year-old Jack Cann (pictured), a pupil at Shirenewton Primary School, is once again tackling the Chepstow Stampede on Saturday (21st October).
He has decided to take part in the event in aid of SLS: a group who help the homeless and vulnerable in and around south Wales and Bristol.
SLS is a community group, set up to support projects that help the homeless via outreach rough sleeper projects and family hostels across south east Wales and Bristol.
Their focus is ensuring the rough sleeper projects they help have the resources they need to support the work they do kerbside.
Furthermore they do monthly collections on a rotational basis helping the vulnerably housed into safe houses and family hostels. The group also runs seasonal collection campaigns helping nearly 20 centres and projects working directly with the homeless.
SLS evolved from a shortage of sandwich packs for the Bristol Street Life project in 2014. Across two hubs the group provides more than 560 sandwich packs monthly for Street Life Bristol and packs on an adhoc basis for Edengate Newport.
Jack’s appeal has already raised £130, with a target set of £200.
