2014 MARKS the 200th anniversary of Chepstow's Wye Bridge project.

The ornate landmark, connecting Chepstow's riverbank area with Tutshill, was built in 1816 but designer John Urpeth Rastick unveiled his first designs, pictured, two years earlier.

The order was given to demolish the previous bridge in March 1815 and the new bridge was officially opened in July 1816.

Chepstow Town Council is planning a number of ways to celebrate the occasion, with events linked to Chepstow Festival and a possible re-enactment of the opening ceremony under consideration.

Informative talks are being planned and the town museum is also hoping to stage an exhibition about local bridges.

The first Severn Crossing will also be 50-years-old in 2016.
