MADAM,
Is the pinch point pointless? I have spoken to a number of Monmouth people regarding the pinch point and they cannot understand why we’ve got it.
Having lived in Monmouth since 1970 I have no recollection of an accident occurring there and neither have they.
Also the fact that the pavement is still the old narrow width down to St John’s Street on one side and just above Millets on the other.
I agree with all Marin Howlett said in his letter to the Beacon last week (‘Pinch point’: asset or liability? 24th February) and would like to add that I have witnessed a number of people nip across the gap in front of cars. Had they slipped or tripped then there certainly would have been an accident.
I am also concerned that the pinch point could cause problems if a fire engine or ambulance was required urgently at the top of town.
It would be very interesting to hear the emergency services’ views on the matter.
