MONMOUTH Rotary Club’s ‘Walk The Wye’ event, held in May, raised a total of £13,577 in sponsorship from the 350 walkers who took part.

This total was split with 75 per cent (£10,183) going to the Velindre Breast Cancer Research team and 25 per cent (£3,394) going towards other charitable causes supported by Monmouth Rotary Club.

Monmouth Rotarians visited Velindre recently to hand over the cheque. Professor Barret-Lee, Director of Research, received the cheque on behalf of Velindre Fund Raising. The money raised will further the research into the causes of breast cancer and also help to identify why some drugs are not effective with all patients.

The 2016 walk was the eighth consecutive year that “Walk The Wye” has been run by Monmouth Rotary Club, during which time it has raised a total of over £79,000 for breast cancer research.

The 2017 walk event will be run on Sunday 14th May 2017. For further information visit www.walkthewye.com
