At the hustings at the Bridges Centre, Monmouth, last week the biggest round of applause came when the Labour candidate, Yvonne Murphy, said that if elected she would campaign for proportional representation.

She and the Green, Plaid Cymru and Liberal candidates all deplored the electoral system used for general elections. For this election, all voters who think Mr Johnson will not do enough to tackle climate change, or don’t like his Brexit plans, and who wish to change our MP, will need to vote for Yvonne regardless of whether their main preference would be Green, Lib Dem etc, as Yvonne is the only candidate apart from the Conservative who could win the seat. I hope that once the dust is settled, politicians of all parties will change the system.
