MADAM,
As a long-time supporter of Savoy Youth Theatre Academy, I and my family thoroughly enjoyed their fundraising showcase on 22nd July, following the devastating fire at their meeting and rehearsal premises in May.
Regarding the article in the Beacon dated 25th July, I feel that you omitted a credit for the young lady who worked tirelessly from the day of the fire to the evening of the showcase.
Rhiannon Shaw-Penman has been involved with Savoy Youth Theatre Academy since the age of 11, firstly performing, later directing shows, as a drama leader and ultimately as patron.
She arrived in Monmouth on the evening of 11th May (she no longer lives locally), and after seeing the devastation for herself, set to work contacting former members and artists who had worked with SYTA in the past. She designed a promotional poster, organised a lealet drop, drew up a set list, and arranged convenient rehearsal times and venues for all involved.
This talented young lady has given up her time purely for her love of Savoy Youth Theatre Academy. She received no salary for arranging this amazing showcase; the least we can do is recognise her involvement in such a fantastic show.
So in closing, I’d like to extend huge congratulations to Rhiannon and Savoy Youth Theatre Academy on producing this brilliant fundraiser, and thank Rhiannon for her selfless dedication to SYTA throughout the years, and throughout the most recent event to have befallen them.
Melinda Penman
