MADAM,

August 15th 2015 was the 70th anniversary of the surrender of the armed forces of Japan to the allies, thus effectively ending the Second World War fought in Europe and the Far East.

In 1945 this was celebrated all over the world by street parties, concerts, parades and many other events large and small.

Members of the Royal Engineers Association, Royal Naval Association and friends combined to enjoy a barbecue and social evening to commemorate the signing of the treaty and to remember the sense of joy that the war was finally over.

It was decided that we should organise a party in the absence of any event organised by the town.

The two armed forces associations of Monmouth thank those who attended, the members who helped in the setting up of the event and Monmouth Conservative Club for their co-operation.

It was a very enjoyable evening.
