A LARGE gathering of vintage tractors was seen making their way through the Usk countryside on Sunday 31st May, as 224 vintage entries took part in the National Tractor Run.
Led by David Morgan, the 2015 Royal Welsh Show President, they were waved off from the Usk showground by the mayor of Usk, Cllr David Harding, and the chairman of Monmouthshire County Council, Brian Strong.
The convoy headed to Clytha Hill for a 360 degree view of Monmouthshire and enjoyed the Coed y Bwynydd bluebell wood and hillfort.
After the 16 mile trip, they returned to the showground for lunch before heading off to Star Pitch, Llansoy in the afternoon.
The clubs in Gwent that took part included: The Antique Power Group – based in Sedbury, Chepstow and District Vintage Club, Border Counties Vintage Club of Monmouth, Peter Aston's Ferguson Club and the East Wales and Borders of Pandy.
David Morgan said: "I am delighted with all the support that the clubs and individuals have given in helping us to organise this event.
"I would like to offer my very grateful thanks to all involved all over the country, who have come to take part and help to raise funds for The Gwent 2015 Royal Welsh Feature County Appeal to commence the improvement of the equine area at the showground."
Some of the more interesting tractors that took part included an unusual Fendt 231 GT, owned by David Roberts from Hambrook, Bristol.
There was also an International 1941 – possibly the oldest tractor present, which came over here in war time and is owned by Colin Lewis, Bronllys, Talgarth. A rare Nuffield 345 – orange tractor, was on show, the last of the Nuffields before they went to Leyland, and a unique Massey Ferguson 60, a home conversion tractor, owned by Keith Williams from Llandrindod Wells.
