USK Post Office will remain open at its current location, but with reduced opening times.

The post office, which was due to close on 26th September, is thought to be used by as many as 650 people a week in Usk.

The current Post Mistress has agreed to delay her retirement and will continue to operate the branch until 31st March, or to a date when the service is relocated to the community hub.

A wide range of services will continue to be available, from posting letters and parcels to collecting and returning online shopping items. Customers will also be able to take advantage of a wide range of banking services including cash withdrawals and balance enquiries for customers of all the main UK banks.

The branch will be open from 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday, and will be closed on Sundays.

The news has been welcomed by Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay, who said: “I am sure this will come as a great relief to the people of Usk who were facing up to the double whammy of losing their Post Office as well as their banks.

“Post Offices play a vital role in the community and hopefully a long term solution will be put in place to ensure that the Usk Branch will remain open in the future.”

Neil Jenkins, Post Office Area Network Change Manager said: “We understand how important having a Post Office service is to residents in Usk and we are pleased to be able to keep the services in this area.

“We hope that the local community will join me in welcoming this good news and hope that you and our customers will continue to use the branch.”
