MORE than 2,500 drivers have been caught speeding by cameras that recently went live on the M4.

Between 10th October and 6th November 2,588 Notices of Intended Prosecution were issued for offences of excess speed at the variable speed limit system between junctions 24 & 28 of the M4.

The cameras, situated around the Newport section of the M4 became live on Monday 26th September.

The variable speed limit is enforced by GoSafe and a spokesperson said: “The scheme has been introduced by the Welsh Government with the underlying principle that the system is designed to keep traffic moving by adjusting the speed limit, making journeys safer and more reliable.

“Whilst it’s clear that the vast majority of motorists are adhering to the speed limits, with an average of just over 92 offences per day, it’s also apparent that a small percentage of vehicles passing through this area continue to exceed the speed limit.

“We would again ask all drivers to adhere to the posted limits.”
