MADAM,

I would like to thank publicly two groups who have helped to raise a significant amount of money for the Social Circles at Bridges fund by their tremendous efforts over the Christmas holiday.

As reported recently in your paper, Social Circles (formerly COMIC) will no longer be supported by Monmouthshire County Council from March 2016.

As a result, we have decided to create a “fighting fund” to raise at least £10,000 to retain this vital service for the elderly that has been in existence for more than 30 years.

The fantastic efforts of Vikki Scovell and her Christmas fitness bootcamp raised £340 for the fund, while the New Year’s Eve party at Bridges organised by the ‘Rockfield Boys’ contributed a further £460.

With the valuable support of local businesses (including the Beacon, whose staff organised a successful cake sale before Christmas), more than £3,000 has now been raised towards the £10,000 target.

Further exciting events have been planned to boost the fundraising effort, including a 60s-80s disco on Saturday 20th February and a gig by the ageless ‘Shooey’, organised by the Rockfield Boys, in September.

If you would like to donate to the fund and/ or support these fundraising efforts, please contact [email protected] or call 01600 710891.
