SIR, On behalf of the 25 inhabitants of Carbonne who visited Monmouth last weekend to celebrate the 40th twinning anniversary between our two towns may I thank the people of Monmouth for their customary warm welcome which we always much appreciate. May I also say how touched we were by the efforts so many shops had made in their window displays to make us feel at home. Also the excellent concert laid on by the pupils of Monmouth Comprehensive School at Monmouth Priory Church. The whole programme of events laid on by the Monmouth/Carbonne Twinning Association exceeded all our expectations. It is always a pleasure for us to come to this, our town and to feel that our efforts are helping, in their small way, to continue to foster the cause of European cooperation and mutual understanding. Long may our twinning continue its success. Christian Lacombe (President of Carbonne/Monmouth Twinning Association)
