THE confusion that arose this morning continues with Welsh Water confirming that the advised one way system for Monnow Street, due to begin today, has been postponed.

Updating their 'In your Area' portal on their website, they admit that due to emergency work needing to be carried out on the junction near the Robin Hood Inn, "the work on Monnow Street has been delayed and the temporary one-way system will no longer be in place this week".

Monnow Street was quiet this morning possibly due to the official start date of the traffic restriction being advertised as January 22nd with traders braced for a fall in footfall.

The one way system start date also co-incides with the beginning of the Williamsfield Lane to Wonastow Road 'Active Travel' work according to the Monmouthshire County Council website.

This MCC works will continue until mid-April and will see the mini-roundabout at the junction of Wonastow Road, Rockfield Road and Drybridge Street, returning to a T junction with the priority traffic on Rockfield Road and Drybridge Street.

Further delays getting into town were made worse by temporary traffic lights at the Overmonnow Garage end of Cinderhill Street due to, wait for it, a water leak.
