MADAM, I wonder if you would be kind enough to publish the following letter asking for information from your readers. I am researching the life of Monmouth photographer William Call who had a studio at 3 Priory Street, Monmouth (where the electrical shop was until very recently) from 1910 until his death in 1965. During his working life, he took thousands of very good photographs of street views, church architecture, castles, houses etc which were published as postcards or architectural photographs. I have well over 1,000 of his cards and know of as many again. His father was an impoverished Cornish Baronet and he was born in Paris to a French mother in 1877. The whole family are of great interest and I am hoping to write a book about the family and the photographer. After losing his wife in 1934 he turned to his second hobby which was as a puppeteer and, helped by one of his daughters, he produced shows during the 1940s at a variety of venues. I wonder if anyone can remember him, has any of his less usual postcards or has, or knows of any pictures showing the County Studio in Priory Street. I shall be very grateful for any information about him. Please send an email to [email protected]">[email protected] or write to 5 The Corn Mills, Weobley, Hereford HR48SS. Pat Millington (Weobley)
