A PAIR of young businesswomen from Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls (HMSG) have begun their journey to entrepreneurial success after making their first sale.

The inventor of the Crikey Bikey cycle harness, Sky Ballantyne, 12, and her sister Kia, 13, have received 2000 units of the design from manufacture, and the item is now on sale at Salt and Peppers' No 37 toy shop.

The girls will now compete with the harness at the finals of the Big Bang UK young scientists and engineer fair in Birmingham from 11th to 14th March.

The fair claims to be the largest celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths, and aims to give young people aged between seven and 19 a chance to see what opportunities there are for a career in the field.

For Sky and Kia, who want to go on to become an inventor and engineer respectively, the fair is a chance to scoop the Best in Show prize after getting through the regional heats last year.

The ambitious sisters are both 50 per cent share owners in the business, and when asked what they would do with their first business cheque, they knew their answer. "Start paying mum back," said Sky.
