An impressive array of musical ability entertained the audience at Monmouth’s Got Talent with acts from the three schools taking part, raising money for two charities.
With nine acts to choose a winner from, judges Amy Ritter, David Lawson and Mayor of Monmouth Alice Fletcher had a difficult task but eventually the talented Haberdashers’ jazz-funk band The Fuzz, (pictured above), triumphed.
Organised by the pupils themselves, the evening started with MCS pianist Tom Casadeus-Hall who a judge said “played with a beautiful, gentle tone. Next, soloist Lucy Baker from Monmouth Girls (MG) has “a great stage presence”.
MCS pianist Isla Davies impressed judges by playing and singing Kate Bush’s ‘Running up that Hill’ and gained third place. Ellis Chan of Monmouth Boys, had “real showmanship” playing Chopin’s Barcarolle from memory.
Evie Jones, MCS sang ‘Centuries’, the judges said it was “very well sung, great strong voice”.
Ffion Sheppard, MG, sang ‘What Baking can Do’ from Waitress, The Musical. The judges thought she had a “lovely voice with a lot of character”.
MCS’s Y8 student Anzhela Lypyznkza who joined the school from Ukraine played ‘Dreams of Love’ by Liszt and gained second place. Finally, MCS soloist Jack Painter sang Sinatra’s ‘My Way’ “an entertaining, engaging performance” said the judges.

But it was The Fuzz that took the glory and looked and sounded amazing according to the judges, “two guitars, sax trumpet and clarinet solos - fantastic” said a judge.
All profits from the event went to mental health charities: The Ted Senior and Mindstep Foundations.
