MADAM,

May I through the pages of the Beacon thank the 80 swimmers who braved the River Wye, Theresa Tranter of Monmouth School Sports Club, Mark Westgate for supervising the safety of the swim and without whom the swim would not have been able to take place, to Sarah Sawyer of AONB for supplying the medals and to the many wonderful sponsors supporting the swimmers to raise the magnificent sum of £1,262 for Nowzad.

Life in war torn Afghanistan is not easy and when Royal Marine Pen Farthing rescued his first dog during his tour of duty little did he know what he was starting with his dog Nowzad back in 2007. The stray companion animals that have adopted soldiers become more than just a rescued stray.  They are often a symbol of hope and positive forces for the soldiers during their dangerous tour of duty.

So far Nowzad has helped co-ordinate the rescue and transportation of nearly 800 cats and dogs for soldiers mainly serving in Afghanistan. Nowzad Dogs is not just another animal welfare charity, it is a way of life for hundreds of people who can put aside cultural and religious differences to make a positive impact on the lives of so many innocent animals in Afghanistan.

There will be a coffee morning on Saturday 22nd August at The Priory in Monmouth from 10am to 1pm to help Nowzad continue its much needed work and we look forward to welcoming our regular and new supporters.

For further information please telephone 07889 581181.
