Storm Ciara left its mark as it swept its way across the country on Sunday.

Winds of up to 80mph and rain lashed the county of Monmouthshire leaving a trail of devastation in its wake.

Trees were particularly prone to its fierce temper as roads were temporarily closed while fallen trees were cleared from the path of motorists.

A feared return to high river levels was overshadowed by the gusts which are thought to be responsible for a lorry overturning on the M48 Severn Bridge, forcing it to be closed in both directions.

Bigsweir Bridge was temporarily closed due to a large tree falling across the entrance to the bridge on the Llandogo side

On Monday, an amber flood warning was still in place for the River Wye and the River Monnow in Monmouth and residents of The Narth and Whitebrook were still without electricity after the storm whipped through, cutting off power to hundreds of homes.

Elsewhere high winds brought down two trees on either side of Raglan Garden Centre on Sunday.

A perry pear tree fell across the road on the Raglan side at lunchtime, while another came down on the road just past the garden centre entrance. Traffic was disrupted but fortunately no-one was hurt.
