A STEELWORKS company is to be prosecuted after two engineers were killed following an explosion in 2015.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has informed Celsa Manufacturing (UK) Ltd that it will be prosecuted following the explosion at Celsa steelworks, Splott, Cardiff on 18th November 2015.
The explosion resulted in the deaths of Mark Sim, a father of two from Caldicot, and Peter O’Brien, a father of six from Cardiff.
Five other people were also injured in the blast, which happened in the basement of the rod and bar mill.
Mr Sim, 41, was originally from Newcastle-upon-Tyne and coached under 14s at Caldicot Town FC.
The families of both men have been informed that Celsa Manufacturing (UK) Ltd will be prosecuted.
The first hearing is due to take place at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on 11th September.
In January this year it was announced that no criminal charges would be brought against Celsa, with HSE taking over responsibility for the case.
After the incident Mr Sim’s wife Samantha said: “Mark was dedicated to his job and would always do it to the best of his ability and was always willing to help others.
“He was dedicated to his home life as much as work. He had two families: Celsa and home.”
