MADAM,

MCC Highways have been busy around Trellech recently but their intrusion into our journeys leaves me staggered at the work they are doing.

Firstly, they created a two-way diversion through Cross Lane, south of Trellech. Cross Lane is an about 1000m long, single track narrow road with high hedges. For at least 600m there is no passing place and yet MCC highways chose to divert traffic from and to the B4293 down this lane.

A combination of two large lorries or anything towing a trailer would have caused absolute chaos. I have written to Highways about this but suffice to say, at the time of writing, I have not received a response.

The second example is the work going on to introduce a 20mph speed limit through Trellech. Rather than apply this to the existing 30mph limit they have chosen to keep the existing limit and erect new signs 50m further down the Monmouth Road. There is nothing but hedgerow between the proposed 20mph and the existing 30mph so why incur additional expense erecting new signs? If that isn’t enough the new signs actually encroach onto the road and are currently surrounded by traffic cones to ensure they are not hit by traffic; is this permanent?

Furthermore the existing 30mph sign is hidden by the hedge. Why not spend the money on exposing those to drivers?

Have MCC in general and Highways in particular lost direction?
