SCHOOLS from Chepstow and its surrounding area joined together in harmony last week.

Taking part in the St John's-on-the-Hill Community Singing Day, pupils from Aylburton, Lydney, Woolaston, Severnbanks and The Dell - as well as St John's own junior singers - shared a fun day of singing.

Led by Miss Alicia Stark, a choral director from Atlanta, USA, and St John's musical director Mr Chris Andrews, the children wowed a packed hall with Shake it Off by Taylor Swift, Three Little Birds by Bob Marley, Love Train by The O'Jays and Hava Nagila, a traditional Israeli song.

This year's event was the biggest yet, with more than 130 children from the six schools.

St John's headmaster, Nick Folland, said: "It was quite superb. The children loved it, learned the songs with brilliant energy and performed them with huge enthusiasm.

"It is important that we link with the local community and I am very grateful to Mr Andrews and all the other staff who make this work."
