SEVERAL ideas for new Chepstow town entry signs were presented to councillors last Wednesday (19th

March).

The signs could be modified to include various assets to the town such as its Fairtrade and 'Walkers are Welcome' statuses.

Images of what the signs could look like were presented at the Lower Wye commitee meeting by Welcome Monmouthshire project officer, Mark Lloyd.

Several variations of potential signs were adapted to include the town's twinning information and a combination of Transition Chepstow and its Fairtrade and Walkers are Welcome

statuses.

Councillors were in agreement that the proposed signs heldtoo much information and that drivers wouldn't be able to read the signs andconcentrate on the road at the same time.

Councillor Graham Down said: "The signs look far too cluttered, if you're driving past at 30mph you're not going to be able to read the signs properly.

Cllr Armand Watts

said: "There's too much information on the signs, we need to

keep it simple. The information featured on the signs is worthy but you can find it online."

Cllr Peter Farley said that the signs need to be easy to modify as statuses such as Fairtrade are based on annual re-recognition and if Chepstow's status is ever lost then the signs will have to be changed.

Replacing the signs will cost an estimated

£3,000 and would be funded through the 'Welcome Monmouthshire' rural development plan project.
