MONMOUTHSHIRE will stop to remember this weekend with services held around the county on Saturday and Sunday.On Armistice Day, Saturday 11th November, services will held at Monmouth Boys School and Castle Square in Monmouth at 10.50am to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two world wars and later conflicts.

In Chepstow there will be a short Act of Remembrance at the war memorial, High Street at 11am.

On Remembrance Sunday, 12th November, services will be held in towns and cities across the country when the nation will fall silent at 11am, the time the guns on the Western Front in the first World War fell silent in 1918 .

In Monmouth, organisations will meet at Castle Square for a parade commencing at 10.40am.

The parade will then walk to St James Square along Priory Street and Monk Street for an 11am service at the war memorial in St James Square.

In Chepstow the annual  Remembrance Day parade and service will take place at 10.45am, leaving from Welsh Street Car Park, heading down High Street to the war memorial. The laying of the wreaths will take place at 11am and then at 11.15am the parade will continue to St Mary’s Church, in Church Road where a service will be held.  

In Usk, the Armistice Parade will commence from The Royal British Legion in Newmarket Street and make its way to St Mary’s Church for a 3pm service via Bridge Street, Twyn Square and Priory Street.

A rolling road closure will operate during the times of the parade.

In Caldicot, a parade will leave Jubilee Way at 10.25am, and will march to St Mary’s Church for a service for 11am.

The parade will then march back to the Severn View Social Club for a social gathering open to all.

Later, an afternoon service will be held at 4pm at Caldicot Cross.

At St Wonnow’s war memorial near Monmouth, there will be an Act of Remembrance at the memorial followed by a service at the church.

At Raglan, a service at the war memorial in the square will take place at 11am, gathering for 10.45

At Skenfrith, a short service to lay wreaths will take place at 3pm at the war memorial, gathering at 2.45pm.

At Catbrook, there will be a Service of Remembrance at 3pm with Monmouth Band.
