MADAM,

My interest is researching aircraft crashes in my local area. I am trying to trace any relations, photographs or pilot’s flying log book of a Second World War RAF fighter pilot, Sergeant John Thomas Strickland, service number 922262, who came from Monmouth.

Whilst training in No.55 Operational Training Unit based at RAF Usworth, North-East England he made a wheels up forced landing in a Hawker Hurricane on the 2nd January 1942 with no injuries somewhere near Consett, County Durham. He was born in 1918 and died in 1996.
