A SCHOOL of 100 pupils in Malawi now has access to a new toilet block, thanks to the fundraising efforts from the students at The Dell
Primary School.
The Chepstow students share a link with the African 'Yankho School' through the 'Connecting Classrooms' scheme.
The global program connects educational bodies from across the world, exploring social, cultural and environmental themes as well as providing guidance and support.
The Dell, which also sponsors two young girls to attend Yankho School every year, became aware that their African counterpart had lost their pit latrine in a flood.
To raise the funds, the school held a 'Malawi Day' in 2013, encouraging the pupils to dress in the Malawi flag colours of red, green or black, bringing a pound to donate.
The toilet block is the first flushing toilet facility for the Malawi school.
