THE Severn Area Rescue Association’s Beachley lifeboat crew was called out on Saturday afternoon (7th January) to assist a motor yacht which had reported taking on water whilst on the Wye in Chepstow.

The 38 foot Sunseeker boat had called the Coastguard and was leaking water through its exhaust.

SARA Lifeboat 1 ‘The Jim Hewitt’ arrived rapidly on scene in Chepstow.

The skipper had made a temporary repair, and the SARA crew installed a high-volume petrol pump ready to go into action if needed.

The SARA Lifeboat escorted the yacht, with a crew member remaining aboard, to Portishead at slow speed.

The Portishead Marina had made a lock available and arranged an emergency lift to remedy the leak, and the lifeboat returned to Beachley.
