MADAM,

There is no point in going over what readers’ letters have already highlighted, but it is evident that the so-called ‘Indy party’ councillors are anything but independent.

The town council has, prior to 15th May, been an asset to the town. I know most of them and respected them.

My wife was a town councillor for nineteen years and I know the effort and dedication to duty that it takes; it is not a 9 to 5 job but 24/7.

It is very sad to see the damage these Indy people have done to the reputation of the council through their lack of experience; better to sit, listen and learn for a few months before attempting a take-over.

Councillors are there to work for the benefit of all residents, not for the pursuits of the Indy party agenda.

It would have been sensible to elect the deputy mayor, Jane Gunter to the chair. She is experienced and would have guided new councillors through their first year, not grab the job that the new mayor is obviously not qualified to do.

In the Beacon dated 24th May, the new mayor was asked to comment on the shambles of the annual general meeting that she had presided over. She refused, she should now consider her position as leader of the council.
