THE Kymin Dash returns to Monmouth's streets later this month, after successful events in 2013 and 2014.
Taking place on Sunday 19th April at 11am, the event's race headquarters will once again be at Monmouth School Sports Club.
The dash has been organised by the Spirit Of Monmouth Running Club, which has built up a strong reputation for the event since getting the run back into the racing calendar in 2013 after a few years break.
The run takes in a challenging but scenic seven mile route.
Starting on the Kymin Road, runners head up to The Roundhouse, climbing to around 850ft above Monmouth, where it is hoped the views might ease the burning in runners' legs.
The route then sweeps back through the bluebell carpeted Forest Of Dean to the River Wye before turning back to Monmouth.
Here the competitors can stretch their legs a little on the flat run along Hadnock Road, before finishing at Monmouth School Sports Club.
The course is mostly on tarmac and forest tracks, with the opening mile certainly giving runners' lungs a good workout.
But what goes up must come down and there will be a prize for the King and Queen of the Hill, being the first male and female to reach the summit as well as the first local male and female along with age category prizes.
The running club is very grateful to sponsors Monmouth School Sports Club, Walford Timber and Brighter Foods as without the support of local businesses the event would not be as successful as it is.
Race director Emma King has been delighted with the amount of interest shown in the event.
"We had just over 100 runners in 2013 which more than doubled to 250 in 2014," she said.
"I am confident 2015 is going to be a sell out with 350 runners taking part."
The running club has so far raised £1,250 for charity, which has been matched by Barclays Bank.
This year any funds raised from the event will be donated to Action Duchenne, as one of the club's members has a teenage son affected by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
To keep everyone safe the organisers will close part of the Kymin Road for around 20 minutes from the bottom and at Good Neighbours Lane.
This is to allow the runners to join the road and make their way up the hill, while there will also be speed restrictions along Hadnock Road from 11.30am until 1pm.
The running club has apologised in advance for any disruption that may be caused.
Cake and refreshments will be available for competitors afterwards.
