A MONMOUTH woman is looking for a man who jumped into the River Wye on Easter Monday and saved her dog.
Katherine Giovanelli's black labrador got into trouble, caught in currents swimming in the section of the Wye behind the Monmouth Boys School sports field.
A stranger dived into the river to rescue 18-year-old Katherine's dog after seeing the animal in trouble while sitting with a friend on the riverbank.
She said: "My dog jumped into the water on our walk, and I thought he was safe because he swims all the time. But I wasn't aware of the dangers. The river was flowing very fast and he was out of his depth really quickly.
"He was swept right out into the centre of the river and I couldn't reach him.
"Then a man who was sitting nearby with friends, jumped in and pulled him out. He was young, roughly mid to late-20s, well built and had to be extremely fit to pull my dog out, he weighs around five stone. The man had a shaved/ bald head, was wearing swimming shorts and lost a sock in the river.
"I really don't think he realises what he has done. My dog means everything to me and I just want to thank him.
"He risked his life to save my dog."
The rescue attempt took place between 4pm and 5pm on Monday 6th April.
If anyone knows who the kind stranger is, she encourages them to contact her on 01600 772993.
She adds: "I'd like this to be a warning for other dog owners, to be aware of the dangers of the river, even for dogs who are strong swimmers."
