FUNDING of £4,000 looks set to be poured into good causes across the county.

If approved by Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) today (6th May) the Monmouthshire Welsh Church fund will provide grants to several community groups.

The Monmouthshire Welsh Church Fund was set up to aid the advancement of education and religion, art, libraries, museums, the relief of poverty and other purposes beneficial to the community.

Successful groups included: St Cybi's Church, St Arvan's Church and Abergavenny Community Trust.

Reverend Pamela Love at St Cybi's Church was overjoyed with the grant. She said: "The PCC of St Cybi's were delighted and very grateful that the panel who considered our application for a grant from the Welsh Church Fund have recommended that we receive £2,000 towards the cost of works which will follow the initial investigation of the problems with the building.

"However, we understand that the decision still has to be ratified by the cabinet of MCC. We are very hopeful of a positive outcome."

Cabinet will meet today to discuss the plans.

Applications for the Welsh Church Fund are considered seven times a year and are open to Monmouthshire residents and any organisation operating within the county.
