Monmouth could soon have the 60 bed Premier Inn Hotel on Portal Road as town planners gave it a recommendation for approval Monday night, 2nd March.
With support from Monmouth's chamber of commerce, who claim the extra bed space in town is badly needed, the plan had a great deal of support from councillors who looked at the traffic concerns raised by a member of the public, who was broadly supportive of the application anyway.
A pedestrian crossing point with an island will be installed north of the present access road and it was noted that the hotel would create 19 full-time jobs.
Axiom, the architects produced the drawings to give an impression of the new building, in conjunction with urban designers, Turley.
Other plans passed for approval included: DC/2015/00126: Planning permission for the installation of two dormers to front elevation (for associated loft conversion – permitted development), two dormers to rear and single storey rear extension, widen vehicle access and install new pedestrian access to front at Urishay, Somerset Road Monmouth.
DC/2014/001215: Planning permission and Listed Building Consent (001216) for a single storey flat roof extension to the rear of the property to provide a larger kitchen/dining area and internal works to create a downstairs toilet at 30 St Mary's Street.
DC/2015/00123: Planning permission for the erection of a and integral ancillary café/restaurant, with associated access, parking and landscaping on Portal Road Monmouth.
DC/2015/00183: Planning Permission for a single storey rear extension 34 Clawdd Du Monmouth.
