POPULAR retired Head of Mathematics at Caldicot School, Graham Rosser, has sadly died aged 86 years.

He leaves his wife Wendy, also a teacher, whom he met in the school staff room, his daughters Jane and Louise, and much-loved grandchildren Jonathan and Lauren.

Graham was born in Penhow and lived locally for many years, including in Llanmartin, Undy, Caldicot and Portskewett. He moved to Somerset for 22 years before moving back to Undy in 2014.

In July 2017, having recently been discharged from hospital, he and Wendy attended the Caldicot School fete to mark 60 years since the opening of Grayhill Building, and its imminent demolition. Graham taught at the school for 30 years, from its opening in 1957, and fittingly was at this event 60 years later, meeting many former pupils and staff.

He is remembered with great affection by hundreds of former pupils, who describe him as a kind, patient and caring gentleman.

Apart from being a first class teacher, he enjoyed many sports, including cricket and rugby and for years he played for Magor RFC. He loved walking with his friends in Wentwood, and ran regularly, completing a half marathon in 1984 and was also a gifted artist.

A Service of Thanksgiving for Graham’s life will take place on Thursday 20th December at the Langstone Vale Crematorium.
