MONMOUTH MP David Davies has spoken of his “disappointment” after today’s ruling by the Supreme Court that Brexit cannot start without approval from Parliament.

Judges at the Supreme Court ruled by a majority of eight to three that Theresa May cannot begin talks with the EU until MPs and peers give their backing.

The court also ruled that the Scottish Parliament and Welsh and Northern Ireland assemblies did not need a say before triggering Article 50.

Commenting on the ruling, Mr Davies said: “Many Brexit supporters, myself included, will be disappointed by this ruling.

“But so will those Remain campaigners who wanted to use the Scottish Parliament and Welsh and Northern Ireland assemblies as a tool to stop Brexit from happening.

“Both sides will have to live with the judgement and I look forward to a vote in Parliament, which I suspect will happen imminently. Clearly, I will be backing Theresa May.”
