POLICE are investigating a ‘serious incident’ in a school playground that left a teenager with bad facial injuries.

Violence exploded last Thursday morning at Monmouth Comprehensive School when a 14-year-old boy was reportedly “kicked and stamped on” by another pupil.

Around 30 pupils and staff witnessed the incident before a student was able to step in and halt the alleged “unprovoked assault”.

Paramedics were called to the scene shortly after 11am, with the victim being taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment.

Police confirmed they were later contacted by the school and are investigating “an altercation’ involving two boys, while the head teacher has told parents a pupil has been “permanently excluded” in the wake of the incident, which was “upsetting for any students that witnessed it.”

A Gwent Police spokesperson said: “At 12.10pm on Thursday, July 1, we received a call reporting that an altercation had taken place between two boys at Monmouth Comprehensive School.

“A 14-year-old boy sustained facial injuries. Enquiries are currently ongoing.”
