It seems that the Battle of Monnow Street is far from over.

I was saddened by the recent letter from a disabled reader trying to get to the Post Office with minimum pain and thereby acquiring a parking ticket.

Now we are invited to give our views on the final design of Monnow Street.

I’m far from young but certainly mobile. There is absolutely no need for me to park in Monnow Street, ever.

There are numerous other parking opportunities within two to five minutes’ walk.

So let’s simply allocate all street parking space to those who truly need it. Clearly this should include the disabled and deliveries, but we must also find space for drop-offs and - vitally - those who are not disabled but cannot walk far.

Parking by anyone else would be not merely illegal but become socially unacceptable.
