A stretch of rural calm in Pen Y Cae Mawr was shattered this week as Monmouthshire County Council moved in to tackle long‑awaited drainage repairs on Ysguborwen Road. The temporary order, which came into force on Monday closes roughly 355 metres of the lane, starting 170 metres east of its junction with Usk Road. A signed diversion is sending drivers along R113 Usk Road and Old Road while crews work against the clock to finish by February 27.

Residents will still have reasonable access, but motorists are urged to steer clear as heavy machinery digs in for the month‑long task. The council says the closure is essential to complete the repairs safely—anyone caught ignoring the ban could find themselves facing an offence under the Road Traffic Regulation Act.

The order, signed on January 28, marks another push to keep Monmouthshire’s roads watertight and moving smoothly.
