THE site of the former Wentwood Inn, Caerwent will be used for the development of four new houses.

On Tuesday 5th September Monmouthshire County Council’s planning committee approved plans for the site which sits on the south side of the A48 at Five Lanes.

Outline planning permission was originally granted on appeal in March 2015.

On Tuesday the committee approved the reserved matters including the exact specifications for the four large detached dwellings with detached garages and access from the A48.

They determined the scale and form of the proposed dwellings were acceptable given proposed dwellings would vary in design and form but there would be a common contemporary modern approach.

Councillor Phil Murphy welcomed the development, he said: “I’m quite happy to support it, there is plenty of support for it locally.

“The site has been an eyesore and a bone of contention for years and I can’t wait to see it start.”
