A CHEPSTOW fundraiser is to tackle his 10th half marathon next month in aid of Barnardo’s.

Paul Barnston is to take part in the World Half Marathon Championships in Cardiff on 7th October, and hopes to raise £200 for the charity.

Some readers may recall Paul being featured in the Beacon in 2016, when he ran the London Marathon in aid of St David’s Hospice, Newport and raised more than £4,000.

“My best friend was diagnosed with head and neck cancer so I wanted to do something to help raise funds for various cancer charities,” Paul says. “I took up running and after a few half marathons, I ran the London Marathon in 2016 and raised over £4,000 for St David’s Hospice. I was overwhelmed with the fundraising response and was very happy to complete the marathon in 4 hours 58 minutes.

“Since then I have continued to run and fundraise for various charities and my friend has made a full recovery.”

After taking part in the Cardiff Half Marathon last year, Paul visited the Barnardo’s charity tent where he met two old friends who are fundraisers for the charity.

“They asked me if I would run for Barnardo’s in this year’s World Half Marathon Championships in Cardiff on 7th October.

“Never one to turn down a challenge and help others by doing something I love, I immediately said yes!”
