OVER £4,500 has been raised to help two-year-old Imogen Ashwell-Lewis walk unaided.

Imogen from Portskewett was born 11 weeks early and, as a result, suffers from spastic diplegia, a form of cerebral palsy. Imogen is in need of Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) treatment to enable her to walk unaided.

£40,000 needs to be raised for Imogen to receive the treatment.

The Help Imogen Walk campaign, set up earlier this year and first highlighted by the Beacon, has generated support from across the county with fundraising activities including coffee mornings and school onesie days, raising money for the toddler.

Pink wristbands are also being sold for a minimum donation of £1 in businesses around Chepstow, with new limited edition blue wristbands being sold for £1.20

A sponsored zipwire challenge at Chepstow Dive Centre has been organised for Saturday 17th May with Imogen's godfather, Graham Ashwell and Imogen's older brother Gregory Ashwell, 15, taking the plunge.

The campaign is also calling for runners to raise funds for Imogen at the Severn Bridge Half Marathon on Sunday 24th August.

Imogen's mother, Catherine Ashwell-Rice, said: "The support for Imogen has been unbelievable.

"Imogen is doing really well with rehab at the moment and now the weather's nicer I can take her outside to do it."
