RESIDENTS are being urged to remain vigilant by Gwent Police, despite there having been no new burglaries committed in the Osbaston area since February.

With more than 25 connected thefts in Osbaston, residents have had meetings with the police at Osbaston CiW School to discuss fears, deterrents and police programmes.

Alongside regular patrols, Gwent Police has also allocated CCTV surveillance, dedicated officers and other resources to the area.

Inspector Huw Jones said: "Investigations into the burglaries in Osbaston are continuing, there have been no new offences and my team are continuing to work with other police forces in taking their enquiries forward and community officers have been conducting surveys in recent weeks."

"We continue to monitor crimes, incidents and trends in the area and will always ensure that policing levels are proportionate to the current level of the offences in the area.

"We rely on the community to report incidents to us and tell us of any concerns so we can ensure we correctly target our resources.

"We will continue to work closely with partners including the Council, to ensure our communities are kept as safe as possible and feel reassured. CCTV and street lighting, which plays a big part in this, will remain in place.

"I would urge residents to be vigilant and any suspicious activity can be reported via 101"
