MONMOUTH Male Voice Choir is holding another open rehearsal this week at Shire Hall in Monmouth to attract new members.
The open rehearsal, which will take place at 7pm today (28th April), will offer an opportunity to experience singing in a male voice choir.
Chairman of the Choir Huw Edwards said: “We know there will be guys around the Monmouth area who would be keen to sing in a choir and we want to encourage them to attend our open rehearsal. This will be an informal opportunity have a drink and experience singing in a male voice choir.
“We don’t have auditions and just want to offer a friendly opportunity to sing with the choir. Many of us made great friends through the choir.”
The choir, which was formed just over three years ago, now has around 50 members. Under musical director Ian Russell the choir has promoted gala concerts in Monmouth and performed at fundraising events for a wide range of good causes. Last Saturday they performed at the Sessions House in Usk in support of Kidney Wales Foundation.
Huw Edwards continued: “In January we performed at the Principality Stadium before the Wales-Scotland rugby international and it was an incredible experience. In June we will be performing at Caldicot Castle in a major event with Caldicot and Chepstow Male Voice Choirs for the National Eisteddfod and we intend to compete at the Eisteddfod in Abergavenny in August.
“We often hear people say they’d love to sing in a male voice choir and this is their opportunity to give it a try. Of course we want to attract new members to help the choir develop but we appreciate that just coming along to a one off rehearsal without any commitment would be a start. They may end up singing before another rugby international before long.”
