Monmouthshire County Council will assume responsibility for on-street and off-street parking enforcement on 8th April.
The council will enforce existing parking restrictions as indicated by their parking orders and this will include dealing with illegal parking on loading bays and double yellow lines.
Parking obstructions such as the blocking of a carriageway so that traffic is unable to pass will continue to be the responsibility of Gwent Police. Two charges of £50 and £75 will be levied. If offenders pay within 14 days of receiving the penalty notice the charge will be reduced by 50 per cent.
Penalty charge notices (PCNs) will take the form of a paper document within a clear plastic waterproof enclosure which will be handed to the offender or securely fixed to the offender’s car.
Their civil enforcement officers will be provided with a smart uniform which will be similar to that worn by colleagues in the other Gwent local authorities.
MCC will be the enforcement authority for all parking restrictions within the county, which includes limited waiting.
If there is a line on the road and it is supported by a formal traffic regulation order, they will be responsible for enforcing it.
