A CHEPSTOW woman donned a pair of marigolds last Friday (25th April) and took to the Wye Valley walk to clear litter. Niki Morgan organised the litter pick to raise money for the Ginette Harrison School in Nepal. The school, that relies solely on donations for funding, is sponsored by Mountain Kingdoms and is in need of structural repairs. Niki is hoping to raise £1,000 for the school through a combination of litter picking and her Severn Bridge Half Marathon challenge this August. Niki said: "I arrived at a steep multi-coloured bank, with a rainbow of crisp packets, plastic bottles, cans and a large orange traffic cone in evidence. "Initially, I set about my task with gusto, enthusiastically darting from one piece of trash to the other, as though I was being paid by piece-work, or indeed, being paid at all. "As time progressed and bin liners bulged, energy ebbed and willingess waned. There's only so much passion you can sustain for trash. "Determined not to be downtrodden by the weight of rubbish, I focused on the uplifting though that kind friends, family and colleagues had sponsored me to do this. "Their thoughtfulness acted as a counter balance to the thoughtlessness of dropping a can of coke. "The children of the school in Nepal would benefit from the sponsorship and the many walkers and runners who use the Wye Valley walk would benefit from it being a little tidier."
