MADAM,

As party leader of the British Empire Party, I would like to state that Chippenham Mead is not, I repeat not, a village green.

Rolls of the Rolls Royce fame bought Chippenham Mead for the people of Monmouth, (the Monmothians) not the ones that come into town and try to take over what don’t belong to them.

There were nine owners of Chippenham as follows: The Marquis of Worcester; Captain Fortune Powell and Mr Parry; Mrs Taylor; Mr James James; Mr Woollett; Mr Aldridge; Mr J T Price; Representatives of Mr W Pitt; Vicar Dulas Herefordshire.

Rolls gave Chippenham to the people of Monmouth for the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. I have got the Monmouthshire

Beacon dated 5th June 1897 which includes the Diamond Jubilee and the purchase of Chippenham.

Rolls also gave the Rolls Hall to the people of Monmouth and also the Shire Hall which was called the county hall which has a King George IV Charter. Anyone who wants to see the charter please let me know.

Gary Witcombe
