A NEW counselling service has been set up in Monmouth run entirely by volunteers.

The Action Community Counselling Team (ACCT) was launched last week to meet a demand in the community.

Founded on the Christian faith, ACCT offers people the chance to talk to someone in a safe environment. The service isn't just for Christians but for people from all faiths or of no faith. It aims to support the whole community regardless of age, race, gender, health or ability.

Chairman of ACCT, Trevor Summerlin, said: "We set up the group as a result of people feeling their demand for counselling was not being met.

"We're here to provide a service to the wider community and local churches. Leaders in churches particularly get tied up with helping people but don't often have someone to talk to themselves."

ACCT is extending an invitation to those who suffer from stress, trauma or just need to talk to someone. ACCT is a registered charity and although the service is free, a donation is appreciated.

"We ask for a donation but in general we're happy to waive that."

The group currently has eight volunteer counsellors but is looking for more. Volunteers will be given full training.
