A NEW Marks and Spencer foodhall has opened its doors in Chepstow for the first time, creating 20 new jobs for the town.
The store, which opened last Wednesday (9th December), has created the jobs and secured the employment of workers previously employed at the Co-operative store.
Store Manager Jenny Hall and Chepstow Town Mayor Councillor Dale Rooke cut a ribbon to mark the official opening, before welcoming the first customers into the store. They were accompanied by the new store team, including ribbon holders Beverley James and Paul Esherwood who have each worked in the store’s Thomas Street building since it was built some 30 years ago.
Shoppers attending the launch day were treated to a complimentary glass of fizz on arrival and music from Wyedean School Gospel Choir, before perusing the foodhall.
M&S Store Manager, Jenny Hall, said: “It’s been a real pleasure to finally unveil our new Foodhall in Chepstow today and welcome our first customers into store.”
As part of M&S’ sustainability programme, store staff will now choose a local charity to work in partnership with as its ‘charity of the year’. The team will undertake a variety of fundraising activities over the next 12 months to help raise money for the chosen local cause.
