PLANS to erect two three storey detached homes on the grounds of High Trees, Chepstow, were approved by county councillors yesterday (1st July). Part of the existing stone boundary wall at High Trees will also be demolished. High Trees is a Grade II listed building and is within the Chepstow Conservation Area. The houses in question will make full use of the loft space, making the properties three storey. A new retaining wall will be built at the front of the dwellings with each property receiving three on-site parking spaces. Chepstow Town recommended the application for refusal, deeming the development to be detrimental to the character of the existing building and landscape. The proposal received three letters of objection from residents who believed the new houses would not be aesthetically pleasing or in keeping with the period property.
