A million pound proposal to build a new discount food store has been proposed for the Castlegate Business Park in Caldicot.
Over the past five years, the business park has provided commercial property space, and with the land at Crick Road, Portskewett having been identified by the council for new homes, The Robert Hitchens Group feel the time is right to offer a 1,546 square metre out-of-town food store with an extra 745 metres of further retail space for future use.
The proposal will be put before Monmouthshire County Council once feedback from members of the public has been evaluated.
Looking to service the areas of Caldicot, Portskewett and Sudbook, it is hoped the proposal will provide more services and jobs for the area.
Chris Haslam of the Robert Hitchens group, said: "We are not looking to compete with the present Waitrose store and the proposed Asda supermarket but to complement them and add a further retail choice.
"We are trying to get the feedback in the next few days to see what people are looking for and will be looking to put in an appliciation within the next few months."
