Customers of the Nationwide were confronted with a ’closed’ sign when they went to use their Church Street branch last week.

It is thought that the recent heavy rain affected the integrity of the structure of an internal wall and management took the inevitable decision to close the branch.A spokesman for the Nationwide said: "We are aware of unforeseen building issues at our Monmouth branch. Repair work is underway and we have taken the decision to close the branch to carry out checks to ensure the safety of our employees and members. "Our other seven branches within a 20 mile radius, including the nearest Ross-on-Wye branch are open for business as usual for members to use. "We apologise for the inconvenience caused and will update members as soon as we have more information".Members can withdraw money from the post office via their current account and check their balance. if they are on a pre-printed paying-in slip or paying-in book. For any further queries, customers should ring 0800 30 20 11.
